confessions of a shopafrolic

I never shop anymore. It’s mostly due to the fact that my bank account had a total of 50 dollars in it all through the school year (if i was lucky), and that I seemed to spend my moolah on more important things, like eating out and buying candy – you know, the stuff that lasts forever(nawwt). So I resorted to finding old clothes and turning them into semi-fashionable ensembles.

Anyhoo, last night my mom and I planned a mother-daughter bonding night: we went to see Legally Blonde the Musical and went shopping beforehand, as it was in Toronto. We went to Zara, this store I’ve never been in and thought sounded like a club chain or something weird – it was actually super cool! It’s like Forever 21 and Gap and H&M mixed together, and there were crazy sales going on which added to the awesomeness. We spent a decent hour and a half there, and came out with a bunch of new and inexpensive summer clothes! Goodbye old shirt from grade 8! Au revoir dresses that I’ve grown out of! Ha, so I was all pumped about the shopping trip and everything.

Today, my best bud Kate asked to go shopping at the mall – how could i refuse? Plus, I’ve started working at Tim Horton’s and got my paycheck today! We bussed it over there and I spent a total of FIVE HOURS in the mall. I’m pretty sure this is like a world record or something, and my feet are definitely going to murder me in my sleep. There were so many stores and so much to see, and I got 2 romper/jumper things – apparently they are the latest trend, I just think they’re easy, breezy, and beautiful (like covergirl ;) ).

Not to worry, this pointless rant has a point to it – I have concluded after 2 days of shopping that it’s not all that great (I know I said it, and I’m a teenage girl..). Don’t get me wrong, getting new clothes is always nice, but after i got all those things, I realized that I’m still the same person inside, except poorer... And I hate feeling materialistic and controlled by the approval of others – I don’t want to be known as just the fashionable girl, but the cool, funny, spiritual one! Can I get an amen?! Plus, I'm kind of lazy.. and walking around all day carrying shopping bags is just so draining! wow that sounds really bad...*cough* i mean i LOVE getting the exercise because i am so unbelievingly hard-working and athletic!

Ha, so I am very much looking forward to sporting my new pink dress to church on Sunday, but the moral of the story is: it’s much more important to dress your inside than the outside! Phew, I’m glad I learned my lesson...after buying some nifty new outfits... :] hey, i’m still a work in progress!

Oh boy...

meg.

here's an exception - betty is not only incredibly stylish but also has an amazing personality. man, where can i get me one of those ponchos !
